Prepare to be egg-static, parents! It seems that the Aussies’ love for eggs has gone over easy and cracked a new milestone. Yes, you heard that right, the humble eggs, a superfood at its finest, are being consumed with fervour. More than 18.9 million eggs vanish off of plates daily and that adds up to a massive 6.9 billion over the last year!*
The yolk of this egg-enomenon was brought to light right in time for World Egg Day, on the 13th of October, 2023. It’s a fantastic opportunity to appreciate the humble egg’s greatness – they are versatile, portable, and pack a punch with 13 essential vitamins and nutrients. Parents, they’re also a great source of affordable protein for your growing kiddos.
Wanting to delve into egg-stravagant Aussie eating habits, Australian Eggs commissioned fresh research in collaboration with YouGov. The study showed that for a third of Aussies (35%) who usually cook dinner, it’s not always a walk in the park.
These Aussie cooks shared their top dinnertime pressures:
– Time taken in cooking and prepping (52%)
– Feelings of exhaustion or tiredness (52%)
– Cleaning up post-meal (47%)
– The effort and planning covered (47%)
– Cost of groceries (41%)
– The struggle to come up with new ideas (40%)
– Contending with fussy eaters (27%)
Keeping in mind these complications, eating decisions for dinner are prioritized based on taste and flavour, simplicity, time efficiency, and nutrition.
Here’s a fun fact, parents, did you know that 60% of Australians are only willing to clean up after dinner for a maximum of 15 minutes, while 26% prefer even less – 10 minutes or below?
The study also showed that Australians typically rotate through three meals each week on average. However, the Baby Boomers are the real champs with up to seven meals in rotation!
