Empowering Youth: Winning Without Fighting – A Workshop for Safer Holidays
Hey there, amazing parents! As we gear up for the summer holidays, filled with sunshine and outdoor adventures, it’s essential to address an all-too-common concern that shadows our growing boys—random acts of violence and the dreaded “coward punch”. Those moments of aggression that peak during this season can be worrisome, but fret not! Holistic Self Defence coach and Fitness Boxing Trainer, Patrick Moore, has a proactive solution that keeps our children safe and sound.
Each jab and uppercut in the world of self-defense teaches a lesson beyond the physical—a lesson that’s just as critical as knowing how to stay afloat in the water. “Self-defense skills are vital in an age where public assaults on youths are a rising menace. Yet, there’s a silver lining, a path to empowerment,” assures Patrick.
The Concern
It’s a puzzlement, isn’t it? Schools, at times, bypass this critical aspect of education, and we, as parents, can unintentionally overlook it too. The result is boys struggling to navigate these waters solo. But, as they say, hope is not a strategy—and that’s where the passionate Northern Beaches (Sydney) PCYC youth coach steps in.
Fielding a flurry of questions from concerned 11 to 14-year-olds about avoiding confrontations and standing tall against bullies, Patrick realized the need for a comprehensive approach to fostering confidence and safety in our young ones.
The Solution: Winning Without Fighting Workshop
Introducing Winning Without Fighting, a captivating 3-hour workshop designed for boys to learn the art of peace over punches. Accompanied by parents, the youngsters embark on a journey to:
- Diffuse tense scenarios effectively
- Identify potential threats early
- Exude confidence while walking—a proven deterrent
- Master “Tongue Fu”, the power of words over fists
- Achieve fitness without the fray
This isn’t just about learning to sidestep a physical altercation; it’s about cultivating resilience, respect (towards everyone, girls and women included), and the insightful reflex to manage conflict with aplomb. Tapping into that inner strength, our kids discover that they are capable of so much more when they choose to win without engaging in a fight.
And it’s not just serious business; there’s fun too! As Tim, a bright-eyed 11-year-old participant shared, “I just wanna get ripped!” The desire to be strong is starting at a young age, and Patrick’s program harnesses that zeal in the most positive way possible.
Championing Non-Violence
Patrick offers a roadmap to fitness that parallels the discipline of a fighter, yet emphasizes the higher path—non-violence. “I guide them through the process of getting fit like a fighter and then show them why they should never have to fight. It’s a street brawl where no one is the real victor. But remember, You’re Stronger than You Think to win without fighting.”
