Once upon a magical musical time, Avan Yu, the recipient of the prestigious Gold Medal at the Sydney International Piano Competition 2012, won hearts globally. This extraordinary talent is now setting course back to Australia to weave magic once more with his dazzling performance at the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.
This enchanting musical feast will feature two spellbinding classical piano concertos that are sure to transport you to a world of pure and exquisite harmony. The concert takes place at the esteemed Concert Hall, The Concourse, Chatswood.
The concert commences with the captivating overture, The Hebrides, by Mendelssohn, drawing its inspiration from the stunning natural beauty of the Scottish coast. Avan Yu then takes centre stage as the star soloist and director in Mozart’s deeply emotive Piano Concerto No.20, K.466, one of only two concertos that the legendary composer wrote in a minor key.
Following this is the brilliant Piano Concerto No.1 by Beethoven. Together, these pieces form a musical narrative that will undoubtedly leave every listener absolutely riveted!
Avan Yu’s storied career took off after bagging the First Prize, along with nine additional special awards, at the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2012. This win catapulted him to international fame, and there has been no looking back since. On high demand as an international soloist, Avan now returns to Australia to lead the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.
The musical extravaganza is set to kick off on Saturday 25 November at 7pm, with a second performance on Sunday 26 November at 2pm.
